Eugenia and I went to see the famed Simatai section of the Great Wall on May 7 by ourselves. It was great to finally see what is often labelled in the guide books and tourist literature as the most beautiful of all the sections. Since between us, we have been to five sections, we both thought that this was indeed true. We took the easy route to the top by getting on a cable car most of the way and then hiking up the short distance to the wall. Once on the wall, we did walk a bit to both sides. SInce we went on the day after the Chinese labor day holiday was over, it was hardly crowded and we had most of the place to ourselves. Earlier this week, we had also gone to see the Bejing Zoo and Aquarium. The Zoo was mostly a sad state of affairs, the Giant Panda was the big attraction but the damn thing was sleeping when we went there. The Aquarium was actually quite good with a gigantic shark tank and they also had a show with dolphins and seals similar to that in Sea World.
